Container Content Reference Corrections in Monographs and General Chapter

Type of Posting: Publication Correction

Posting Date: 27–Jan–2012

USP is alerting stakeholders that references to the Volume in Container section of General Chapter <1> Injections will be changed to refer to the Container Content section to be consistent with a recent change made in General Chapter <1> Injections. These references will be changed in fifty-eight monographs and one General Chapter.

In 2009, the Parenteral Products-Industrial Expert Committee proposed adding text that provided guidance for determining the volume in container for sterile solid formulations, which was absent from the compendia. To correctly label the section and include sterile solid formulations, the Expert Committee proposed changing the section title “Volume in Container” to “Container Content.” The proposed revision became official February 1, 2011 in the Second Supplement to USP 33–NF28 Reissue, but a number of references listing the previous section title were not corrected.

The monographs and General Chapter containing incorrect references will be updated in the First Supplement to USP 35–NF 30. The list of impacted monographs and General Chapter is as follows:
